Mesin wire cut adalah mesin yang digunakan untuk memotong material-material yang mampu atau bisa dialiri arus listrik. Tidak hanya besi atau baja saja yang bisa di potong melainkan  material lain seperti tembaga, aluminium, kuningan, atau tungten carbite. Disini di tekankan material yang bisa di aliri listrik di karenakan cara kerja mesin wire cut itu sendiri menggunakan wire (kawat) yang di aliri arus listrik sehingga kalau bersentuhan dengan material yang bisa menghantarkan arus listrik akan mengakibatkan semacam terjadi konsleting yang menyebabkan terjadinya pembakaran, pembakaran inilah yang membuat material-material itu menjadi terpotong.

Cara Kerja Mesin Wire Cut :

Kawat wire cut dijalankan oleh Computer Numerically Controled ( CNC ) instrumen , yang dapat mengontrol kawat pada sumbu tiga dimensi untuk memberikan fleksibilitas yang lebih besar . Sedangkan EDM konvensional tidak dapat selalu menghasilkan sudut ketat atau pola yang sangat rumit , meningkatkan presisi kawat memungkinkan untuk pola yang rumit dan potongan. Selain itu , kawat mampu memotong logam setipis 0,004 " . Pada ketebalan tertentu , kawat hanya akan menyebabkan logam menguap , sehingga menghilangkan puing-puing potensial. Kawat unit WCEDM memancarkan percikan api di semua sisi , yang berarti memotong harus lebih tebal dari kawat itu sendiri . Dengan kata lain, karena kawat dikelilingi oleh lingkaran cincin, jalur pemotongan terkecil dan paling tepat mungkin adalah diameter tambahan cincin dan kawat , teknisi dengan mudah memperhitungkan dimensi tambahan ini. Produsen terus menghasilkan lebih tipis dan lebih tipis kabel untuk memungkinkan kerfs lebih kecil dan bahkan presisi halus .
